Rob to compete in the Britcar 500 for Lunar Racing
Rob Hedley is set to return to the Britcar Championship in the upcoming Britcar 500 at Silverstone. The Britcar 500 is a 6 hour race replacing the traditional 24hr race that normally takes place around this time. Following the economic problems the decision was made to reduce the length of the race to ensure everyone had the opportunity to race.
Rob has been invited by the Lunar Racing team to partner their regular hotshoe Cassy Watson as well as two experienced but new to Britcar drivers, Paul McLean and Pete Fairbairn.
Lunar Racing is a race team with a difference, in that the mechanics are all 16 to 18 year old college students. In fact Lunar Racing is part of the curriculum of Bedford College and teaches the students Motor and Motorsport Mechanics in a real world environment, the race track. With a 100% record of finishes and podium finishes at every round, they are currently lying in 2nd in class in the Britcar Production championship, not bad for their first year!!!
Hedley commented "I am really looking forward to driving with the Lunar team and a long awaited return to front wheel drive. The last time I raced one was at Snetterton in 2008 (See First race of 2008 for Rob a success!!). I also think the Lunar Racing project is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get involved in top level british motorsport. It s fantastic what the team have done in their first year and testiment to the skill and commitment of the students and most of all the teaching and professionalism of Eddie, Paul and Chris. Roll on the weekend!!".
