2008 Season Britcar Opener - Silverstone 22nd March 2008

With Rob sitting out the first race of the series to allow the team to concentrate on the new engine in the Viper, it was all hands on deck at Silverstone for the season opener. Unfortunately, due to a mechanical failure, the Viper impacted the inside wall on the Exit of Bridge corner during open practice on Friday. The driver at the time, Mike Gardiner, was unhurt in the 100 mph crash thanks to the quality of the Car built by the team and the HANS (Head and Neck Support) Device. The car however was not so lucky and will require a complete rebuild on a new Chassis and would not be able to take part in the race. Work is currently underway to get the Car ready for the next round at Snetterton on 19th and 20th April.

Rob and Team Principal, Richard Moore, visited Silverstone on the Saturday to watch the Britcar Race and weren't disappointed. With changeable conditions (read Snow) the race was interesting, with many car spinning especially round the Luffield Complex. The order at the front and right way through the field was constantly changing with constant pitstops caused by the conditions.

The finish was an intense affair with Handkammer and Leslie's BMW M3 E46 being chased down by the Mosler GT3 of Riley and Flux. The Mosler was taking 4 seconds a lap out of the BMW in the final 5 laps and closed the gap to just over 15 seconds at the finish. The final Classifications are as follows:
